HOME - EXTRA CURRICULUM - TOURS - 1995 San Siro, Venice & Rome, Italy During the mid term break in Feb 1995 42 students and teachers left St. Eunan's for what would be a memorable trip to Italy. Our drivers Tom and John knew the continent like the back of their hands and their stories along the way would enliven up the journey. We caught the Ferry at Rosslare and Mr. Tunney wrangled passage to the bridge for Mr Coll who supervised the Ferry coming into Le. Harve. After a calm crossing we were steaming for Paris. Tom knew short cut to the MacConalds at Port d'Italy and after reversing the coach up a one way system we were ahead of schedule. The overnight trip to the Mt. Blanc tunnel saw the Glen contingent try their hands at cards with the rest but John on a break soon gave a few lessons in Poker to the lads! The next morning saw us arrive at the San Siro in Milan but the tickets were hard to find so the duo of Tunney and Gordon went into action to secure the best seats in the house - Annello Blue, behind the Milan Goals with all the die hard supporters. With the game in the bag we headed to the bus but not before football jerseys and hats were purchased. Following the game the coach rumbled on towards Venice where we stopped in Busalengo for the night and a real big helping of Peas-a-lotti!! The tokens for the pool table were in short supply but the scarfs bought in the San Siro helped to prevent the balls dropping into the pockets! Mr. Tunney entertained all the troops with French renditions to the Magic Bus contingent. The next day we spent in Venice where we had a guided tour of the main sights such as the Rialto and Piazza St. Marco. The only real hasssle here was the pigeons and some had the lovely habbit of throwing corn on people head to have them attacked like the film the Birds! That night we headed for Tuscany and the village of Montacatinni en route to Rome. On the way the drivers took a detour to take in Pizza and the leaning tour this was a special surprise for all. On arrival at the eternal city the phone was jumping for the tour leader and he revealed that our presedent was in Rome and going to meet us that night - not good news for Daly, Scanny or James as they had a bet on to that effect! We arrived at the Trevi fountain where Fr. O'Fearraigh us with a sizeable group of Do negal folk. We were then treated to a tour of the Roman sights at night by Fr. McCreevy, this tour was one of the highlights as the real Roman experience was for all to flavour. The next day we headed for the Vatican and a tour of St. Peter's. In the afternoon we broke up into groups fpr retali therapy and Mr. Brennan and Mr Coll headed for the Circus Maximus which wasa good idea until a thunder storm left both parties slightly damp. On the way back to the ferry in France we took one last detour to see St. Theresa's Basicillca in Leisieux,. After a long ten days on the road it was good to get back to the banks of the swilly but the memories of this trip will last with those on it for a life time |
