HOME - EXTRA CURRICULAR - SKI TRIPS - 1999 San Valentino, Italy On Sunday the 14th of February, 24 representatives of St. Eunan's College staff and student body left the cathedral town bound for the Dolomite Alps in Northern Italy . The destination was the twin resorts of La Polsa and San Valentino. After flying from Dublin to Milan the party arrived at the Bucaneve Hotel in the wee hours. An early start saw the group fully fitted out with all their ski gear. A short walk found the anxious group on the nursery slopes. Day 1 was spent falling down, getting up and falling down again!! Day 2 was more of the same, however one of the students came down to breakfast with less hair than he went to bed with. He maintained that it was an aerodynamic advancement!! On the third day rapid progress was made with nearly all the group graduating to the four man Gondola and the top of the mountain. Descending was slower and more painful than the trip up. On day four most of the party were negotiating red runs. While skiing was top of the agenda the boys were busy making contacts in the capital city some more successful than others!!! By the last two days all of the group were prepared for the invasion of the neighbouring resort of La Polsa. The task force set off on the cross country and cross mountain trek that would bring them to La Polsa under the spiritual direction of John "Ashes" Friel and Andrew "Harry" Doherty and Gerard "Franz Klamer" Faulkner. All of the expeditionary force returned to base at the Bucaneve. One of the St. Eunan's party while in Italy had a crash course on how to drive a snow plough. Such was the craic and the level of enjoyment by the staff and students alike that a return to the slopes of the Dolomite Alps in Feb. 2000 has been organised with 13 of the original 20 strong party returning. News of this trip will be posted here later in the year!!!
