CODE OF CONDUCT

PREAMBLE

The school’s CODE OF CONDUCT is based on the principle of the God-given dignity of the person and the respect due to oneself, other pupils, members of the staff, those in the wider community and the care of the environment in which we live and work.

CODE OF CONDUCT

1 Attendance

• Full attendance each school day is required.
• Any absence requires a note of explanation written on the prescribed note at the back of the journal and signed by the parent/guardian. Senior students must use the prescribed note from the note pad given out at the start of the year .
• Note for absenteeism must be given to the teacher of first class on the day the student returns to school. The teacher will collect the note and sign the stub.
• A student must receive permission from the President or Deputy Principal to leave the school during normal class hours. The reason for the absence must be written by a student’s parent/guardian in the school journal or senior note pad.
Please note that notes for absenteeism not written on the prescribed forms will not be
accepted.

• Students unable to return to school after lunch must notify the school immediately and have a note on return to school from their parent/guardian explaining the reason for the absence and written on the prescribed notes at the back of the o journal or on the senior note pad.
• Students are not allowed to leave the school grounds during the morning break, 11.00-11.15
• Mitching is regarded as a serious breach of school discipline

2 Punctuality
Students must be punctual at all times.

• This means being on time for every class and being at classrooms five minutes before class begins
at 9.10, 11.15 and 2.00.
• Students arriving late for school must have a note of explanation written in their homework journal on the prescribed note at the back of the journal (senior students use the same note from the senior note pad) and signed by parent/guardian
• Students have five minutes to get from class to class during the school day. If the teacher
expected for class does not arrive at the classroom after five minutes, students must proceed to the Study Hall. Students are not allowed in classrooms without a teacher being present.

3 Uniform
Complete school uniform only must be worn at all times when pupils are in the school or
representing the school during the school week.

• Complete uniform is grey trousers, grey shirt and jumper, black and yellow tie and black shoes (not runners). This is the only acceptable apparel for classroom ware, therefore jackets must not be worn in class.
• Track suit tops, and hooded fleeces are not allowed under any circumstances.
• Students who are not in complete uniform ( i.e. without proper shoes, a tie, shirt, pants or jumper) must sign the uniform book in the office, have a note of explanation on the prescribed note in their journals or senior note pad and return to school in proper uniform the following day.
• Students who persistently refuse to wear school uniform without adequate reason may be required to stay in the Study Hall.
• Personal effects not pertaining to school activity e.g. walkmans, radios, discmans, iPods, water bottles, and magazines should not be brought to school and will be confiscated. Sweets and confectionery should not be brought to or eaten in class.
• Mobile phones must remain switched off during class time. Camera phones are banned on
school grounds and will be confiscated.
