The final is against our old rivals and the only other Donegal School to compete in Ulster Colleges, De La Salle Ballyshannon. In the group stages of the competition Eunan's run out easy winners. With six Donegal Minors Eunan's are installed as hot favourites for the Final. This is a tag that the team does not easily carry. Psychology takes on an added dimension and heightened significance. In the first half the Letterkenny College threatened to repeat the preliminary performance as the David McGinley inspired outfit ran riot. However for all our supremacy and possession we failed to dampen the spirit of the Erne side College.
In the Second period Stephen Ward won the ball at midfield and refused to be out played by McGinley and O'Donnell. Obviously still reeling from some big words from "Wee Tom" the Ballyshannon College "dug deep and played with some pure passion for their jerseys". A fresh faced Michael Gurn (He would win an All-Star in 1998 at Midfield) was introduced to the team for the match and he thwarted the efforts of the mercurial Michael McHugh. A goal dragged De La Salle into the driving seat and no matter how we tried we could not break down their rearguard. This point is not lost on the mentors and it is on this rock that the teams of the future will be founded. When in dominance you must assert it the only way that yields results, on the score board!
